Le Latin des botanistes

 

Huit rues du Quartier Latin à Paris portent le nom d’un botaniste célèbre : Joseph de Jussieu (1704-1779),

Guy de la Brosse (1586-1641), Carl Von Linné (1707-1778), Charles-François Brisseau de Mirbel (1776-1854),

Michel Adanson (1727-1806), Augustin Pyrame de Candolle (1778-1841), Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656-1708),

André Thouin (1746- 1824).

Après leur identification sur un plan, j’ai herborisé dans chacune des rues et balisé mon parcours, involontairement

en forme de feuille d’arbre. Pour accompagner ces herbiers de « tiers-paysage », j’ai photographié divers végétaux trouvés sur le trajet à l’aide d’un appareil photographique contemporain des botanistes, la camera obscura (boîte noire dotée

d’un minuscule trou pour le passage de la lumière).

The Latin of botanists

 

Eight streets in the Latin Quarter of Paris are named by a botanist : Joseph de Jussieu (1704-1779),

Guy de la Brosse (1586-1641), Carl Von Linné (1707-1778), Charles- François Brisseau de Mirbel (1776-1854),

Michel Adanson (1727-1806), Augustin Pyrame de Candolle (1778-1841), Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656-1708),

André Thouin (1746- 1824).

After identifying them on a map, I went to each in each of the streets and marked out my route, involuntarily in the shape

of a tree leaf.

To accompany these "third landscape" herbariums, I photographed various plants found along the way with the help

of a contemporary camera of the botanists, the camera obscura (black box equipped with a tiny hole for the passage

of light).
